Clingy Baby?!

Question

My son will be a year old next Thursday. (😩) Anyway, he had a little bit of clinginess when he was like 6-7 months...would cry if I left the room, or my mom and dad, or his dad.....and then it kind of went away. Now, here we are and he is SO clingy with me. If I’m playing on the floor with him he will venture off a little bit as soon as I start to get up he’ll cry and crawl after me...or if I leave the room, even if he can still see me he will cry and come after me. I feel SO bad. I know I
Shouldn’t give in every time but it’s so hard to see him want me so bad and not do anything. Any advice?

My 10 month old son follows me everywhere. I like to narrate what I’m doing and I always tell him if I’m going to get up or leave the room. It might seem excessive, but I think it’s a good way to build trust. In the beginning I felt overwhelmed by it, but now I take it as a compliment!
I’ll say something like, “Ben, mommy needs to get a drink of water in the kitchen. Would you like to come with me or stay here and play?” 
90% of the time, he will stand up and give me the “I want up” arms, or he will follow me down the hallway, but every now and then, he just stays put and plays. I always watch him on the monitor (our place is small anyway so I can always hear him), but it gives him an idea of my preferences as well. 
As far as going to the bathroom, he has to be in there with me. It’s like a magical room to him because the door is always shut otherwise. I just bring a basket of toys in or let him play in his empty bathtub on the floor for entertainment instead of going after the toilet paper and the toilet seat lol.

My daughter was exactly like that. Cried if I was out of sight, cried if anyone else held her, literally only wanted me ALLLLLL the time. I couldn’t even pee alone. The only people she would tolerate was my mom and husband...mainly if I wasn’t around though. It’s just something he will have to grow out of honestly. My daughter is 17 months old and really just now growing past it. There’s nothing you can really do. The one and only thing that helped me was getting her out more and leaving her with my family a few hours at a time so she could learn to love others besides me. I’m her primary care taker, as I’m home 4 days a week, practically 5...my husband is only home late evenings and weekends. So she was really attached to me. Sometimes she still has bad days. But over time it’s gotten much much better!! Good luck mama, I know how hard it is! It made me want to go crazy sometimes 😜

My 2 year old follows me wherever I go. Won't let me walk away, always asking for or wanting mommy. I love it, even though it's tiring sometimes, I think of the day she will be a teenage and slamming the door in my face or wanting to be alone 😅

My 1 year old has always being a level 10 clinger I can’t even do dishes with out her sitting at my feet crying the whole time she’s been this way since she was born. We’ve tried everything and her doctor said to just ignore her when I’m doing dishes or something like that but ugh it’s so hard and plus my almost 3 year old loves to egg her on by fake crying to get her to cry even harder
