Still struggling with sleep?

My boy still wakes up about two times a night to nurse. He’s almost 6 months...starting to think he’s never going to sleep all night

He will eventually! Sleep is developmental just like walking and talking, they all learn at their own pace. Studies have shown that parents stress was greatly reduced when they were educated on realistic baby sleeping patterns and when they accepted that it was normal and healthy for a baby to sleep at night. You are not alone. Only 43% of babies will sleep an 8 hour stretch at night by 6 months and only 57% of babies sleep 8 hours straight by 12 months. It just goes to show that sleep training methods must not really be that effective otherwise there would be way more babies sleeping through. You can also see by your poll that most babies are waking twice a night like yours! The best course of action for mothers and parents is to lose the expectation that their babies should be sleeping through by a certain age and just accept your baby and their sleeping patterns. Keep being responsive to your baby’s needs and enjoy those cuddles at night because they will NOT last forever ♥️

My son wakes up a ton to comfort nurse because we bedshare but I do think he probably wakes 2 or 3 times to actually eat. It’s hard to count because I usually go back to sleep after he latches on. It is normal for them to still be eating at night. They are so small and their stomachs are small and they are growing and developing every minute.

Isn’t it interesting that only 23% of babies out of 193 votes (so far) actually sleep through the night! And only another 26% of babies are sleeping long stretches and waking once at night to feed. It seems that most babies wake once or more times at night and this should be very reassuring for many parents that they are not alone and that babies waking at night is NORMAL and HEALTHY. Oh and that sleep training is probably not all it’s cracked up to be 😉

My little girl will be 6 months in like 2 weeks and she is my second child. She is EBF and I don't know how many times a night she still wakes up to nurse. Sometimes just 3 times if I'm lucky, sometimes 5-6 so she's been in bed with me. My son we started to try to teach to sleep on his own when he reached 6 months but never went well. He finally was able to sleep "through the night" by like age 3 and even now he's almost 5 and still will come into our bed at like 4 am lol. They all reach that milestone at some point, I know it's tiring but they grow SO fast and trying to remind myself to enjoy these times (but it's impossible to enjoy it in the middle of the night! 😨) I feel the same way though, one of my friends babies sleeps 9-10 hour stretches literally every single night and has been for a couple months and it's odd to even think about our kids doing that but they will get there. You are so not alone, your little one maybe misses you and needs that connection ❤️

It is very normal for a baby under 6 months to wake at night to eat, I wouldn’t try getting a baby any younger than 6 months to sleep through the night, (unless they are doing it on their own) and even at 6 months or older some babies still aren’t ready...you just got to play it by ear, some babies still need the extra calories after 6 months, some wake by habit.

My son is up twice maybe 3x sometimes I think he just wants mamas comforting in boob form especially during a regression or growth spurt! Hang in there mama

My baby usually sleeps through the night but he’s hell to get to sleep, and he fights naps like crazy. I know it’s harder to not get sleep all night I do, but not getting naps is tough too. And he’s overall not getting as much sleep as he should be getting.

try to not give him a bottle right away and see if you can rock to sleep. also how is his feedings during the day? are they at consistent times with consistent time between them (2-3) hours are you on a consistent schedule? those things will effect his night sleeping it sounds like he might have days and nights mixed up
