How do you put your lo down for naps?

Question

My dauvhter wont fall asleep while eating like she used to, so ive been trying to rock her to sleep but it just doesnt work and she gets into screaming fits and it takes like an hour or more to get her down for a nap. She also refuses a pacifier 😒 What are your nap time routines?

Answer

We decided early on to stop stressing about naps and focus more on the bedtime routine, because as much as it sucks when they don’t nap, a full night of sleep is much better on us. When she acts tired, we
- put her down on our bed (we’re right there the whole time, and it’s not her crib, so she doesn’t associate it with “must sleep now).”
- give her a pacifier
- put a soft blanket near her face (again, we’re on the bed and watching the whole time she naps, but she seems to nap better when she has something soft against her face for some reason).
- if she’s restless for more than 15 minutes or starts crying, we pick her back up and play with her for 10 or so minutes and then try again.

Answer

I read a story while feeding her/rocking and then once she’s done eating I read one more book and then lay her in the crib. Takes less than 5 minutes for her to fall asleep. I’ve been doing this since she was 2 months old.
