Dramamine for toddler motion sickness

My son is 2 and I cant pinpoint when it will happen..but he can be in the car only 15 mins and gets sick. I cant give him food or drinks even a couple hours before or it comes up. I feel soo bad. It makes thing soo difficult bc I want to do soo much with him and I cant. Today I took him to get an oil change early didn't give him anything to eat or drink being I planned it for when he just woke up and he still got sick in the car. I feel soo bad. My husband finally got a day off this Friday bc it's his bday so we planned to take our son the the aquarium which is 1 he car ride. Now my hubby said maybe it's best not to go but i dont think it's fair we cant do anything that requires us to travel. So I called his dr and they said try dramamine but after reading about it from my understanding it makes you drowsy in order for it to work...sorta similar to benedryl feeling. We dont give him anything like books or toys while in the car but it still happens.

Any suggestions? Does anybody have experience with this at all? I want to take a pill to try it but I'm pregnant and dont want to put anything other than vitamins into my body atm. TIA💙
