How early can kids start school?

Obviously my LO isn't ready for school yet he's only 5 months but I'm clueless on this. 
ALSO, any NYC mommys can give me daycare recommendations?? I live in the Bronx by gun hill rd. Would love to hear affordable options, we're currently paying my mom $800/ month to watch baby but can go up to $1000

when i was about 16 i used to work in this daycare on by Story Ave called Sunnys Daycare . i think she only charges $250 a month . im even thinking about putting my son in there when hes about 7 - 8 months
