Solids help??

Question

How to know when to start solids? He sits by himself with no support, reaches and mouthes for food, and shows an abundance of interest. He’s only 4.5 months old and we were going to wait till 6 months but also don’t want to hold back if he’s ready?!

Our pediatrician said it's okay to start practicing. Swallowing is something that comes naturally but eating itself is something that is learned. We started "practicing eating a little over a week ago. But have only fed her twice. We started with butternut squash, waited 5 days, then fed her apple. She seemed to like the butternut squash, but spit every little bit if the apple out. Lol
