Man overwhelming, powerless, emotional. I had a Csection so I heard him cry before I even saw him and immediately started crying once I heard that. Like a sense of relief. Like in the grinch when his heart grows two sizes.

The first time I held my little one was after a 6 hour NICU stay. It felt like I was holding a tiny stranger that I had a huge attachment to. Once she was able to come to our room I became very protective. I was still unsure with everything but I knew I would lay down my life for her in a second. About a day later once we got into a rhythm and I knew what I was doing more it became an overwhelming sense of love. I stared at her for hours and still do. I can’t believe I made this amazing and perfect little baby!

The moment my baby came out and was placed directly on my chest... at first it was so unreal and slow motion (also had barely any sleep for a day and a half before that point so was beyond exhausted). I rubbed her back until she let out a tiny cry then I just remember bursting out crying like a baby myself. She stopped crying in seconds but I couldn’t. Was soooo amazing feeling! When they first pulled her out, I remember her eyes were wide open and her arm reached out towards me. It was all very surreal. For the first few days especially, any noise she made had me wide awake. And she had to be poked to test her blood sugars every few hours day and night for two nights in hospital. I cried with her. Pain cries are the hardest to hear. But holding her felt so right.

I expected to feel some major change the minute my baby was born but it honestly just felt surreal.
