40 weeks, can I pump now?

I’m exactly 40 weeks and milk/colostrum literally just started coming in. I’m being induced next week if baby girl doesn’t come on her own before then. Would it be okay to try pumping to trigger contractions? My cousin told me not to because it could cause me to produce too much milk and baby could choke..(?)

Since you’re at 40 weeks it’s worth a try at this point. Doing it once or twice won’t really impact anything. If you were pumping multiple times a day for the next week then yeah it could. Trying for a couple minutes won’t do anything to your supply though.

I think 40 weeks if a fine time to start because baby is coming sooner than later! Also baby shouldn't choke your body doesn't start releasing the hormones to fully produce breast milk / colostrum until the placenta has detached from your uterus after birth 😊

I started pumping at 37 weeks with my son. Only once a day. By the time my son was born at nearly 42 weeks. My supply was really good. The midwives were so impressed by how much colostrum I had. My milk supply was good too. Wasn’t too much and baby didn’t choke. I just had plenty so baby grew well. I will do the same again this time.

Colostrum is full of nutrients and the perfect amount for a newborn. I would wait.
