dad let's 3 yr old walk about 10 feet away while walking on quiet neighborhood roads. ok?
my husband sometimes takes my almost 3 yr old (she walks) and 9 mo old (he sits in a wagon) for a walk. he walks on the neighborhood road, not sidewalk. he doesnt hold her hand, and she sometimes runs. he calls her back if she goes too far (maybe 15 ft max). theres rarely any cars. I didnt really know the details of their walks.
I went for a walk today with them and I couldnt really believe it. I had no idea this was how he was doing it. I said this isnt normal at all, and that it's super dangerous. and he says I'm being too strict, bc theres are no cars and hes watching. this is after he tells me a story about how he had to yell at her to come from the road to the sidewalk bc a car was coming. I think hes absolutely nuts. he refuses to see anything wrong with it and says everyone does it. I kno they dont let their kids do it the way he does. it's usually kids on bikes and they are either older or are a few feet away.
anyway I said if he refuses to stop letting her go on the road, it's better not to take them. I also told him to just ask anyone and he can see for himself.
now I'm wondering am I truly overreacting. what's the norm?
