Is the shot for birth control better than the pills?

Question

I don’t usually remember to take the pills. I stopped taking them a good while ago. Although, I figured I should get back on birth control, seeing as I’m active. The shot method for birth control has been talked about before, but I just didn’t know if the pills were a better option?

My sister was on the shot for like 7 years. She came off it and it really messed her body up. Her boobs swelled up, she was an absolute emotional wreck. Her periods didn’t come back for around a year after, and her and her husband have been struggling to conceive for 3 years now. 
I’ve heard so many similar experiences to my sisters, I’d never go on the shot.

I gained 20 pounds on the shot, I’m on the pills and I have some mild side effects but at least I didn’t gain weight.

I’ve been on the shot and I’m perfectly fine. I hate having to take the pill everyday at the same damn time. I don’t even take my everyday medicine at the same time everyday.
