My August baby was a little impatient....
Little Carter was due August 9th, but on July 26th, I had my bloody show and began having contractions. The next day, I went to L&D around 11:00 AM and was about a 3, 50% effaced. I was told to walk around for two hours and after I was done, I was a 4, around 70% effaced. From there, I was given only IV fluids and an epidural since my labor was progressing.
When I got to about an 8, my labor stalled. This was around 8:00 PM. They gave me pitocin and broke my water. He was still at around a -4 station, so his head wasn’t dropping at all. Hours went by and by 12:00 the next morning, his head wasn’t dropped and I was at a 10.
Well, suddenly, I woke up and told my husband to “run, get the nurse cause he’s here!” This man, who will celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary in a few days, casually walks out of the room. Meanwhile, I feel a head pressing down trying to get out.
He walks back in casually, without anyone, saying they were on the phone. I yell at him again “the baby is coming now!”
He casually walks out and returns with a few nurses who, after looking, rushed to get everything together. One of them stood beside me and gently prompted me to stop pushing. But, I wasn’t pushing. She asked me to just concentrate on trying not to push, but I could still feel his little head with every contraction. My OB rushes in and half a push later, our second son was born. 7 lbs, 9 oz of sweetness. His delivery was very similar to the delivery of our first son. I didn’t really push with him, either.
