SAHM with Work from Home Husband?

My husband and I are currently expecting our first baby Sep 4th (yay only 4 more weeks🎊) but I feel like our situation is so different from most. I primarily work from home and my husband 100% works from home so we will both always be here with the baby. I just don’t know what kind of boundaries to set with my husband when it comes to needing his help during a typical work day? I know he will help when baby is younger, but when he gets to be a couple of months old idk? Right now even though we are both home we stay separated and he is in his office upstairs while I’m downstairs. He will come down for coffee lunch etc but really it’s like he works a 9-5 just upstairs in our house. I’m not sure how this dynamic will change things once the baby comes

If you wont be working and he is I dont think you can expect him to help out much during the workday. If you really really need help for a little but then you could ask but I think you need to treat it like hes actually away at work where he woulsnt be available to help you.

My husband also works 100% from home. We have three kids and are expecting our fourth. What works for us is once my husband goes to work we try to not disturb him. He will help out at lunch time if I need him to and it doesn't interfere with his work since it's his lunch break. Other than that, we let my husband be because if he gets interrupted, it throws off his momentum and work flow. It can definitely be hard sometimes fighting the urge to ask for help to make my life easier, but I have to remember that it makes my husband's work day harder if I interrupt him.
 
You should talk to your husband to see what he thinks. If you do find yourself getting overwhelmed on a regular basis maybe ask him if it's possible to schedule a 30 minute break in his work day so you can take a shower, drink a cup of coffee, or whatever you need to do to mentally reset. He can't take any sort of vacation time for like 2 weeks? The adjustment period is tough, it would be nice to have him around until you can get the hang of this.

This is my exact situation. My daughter is now 21 months and #2 due in November. 
My husband and I communicate about his day. He always lets me know when he will be on a call or on a meeting, so I know not to disturb him. If he needs to concentrate on something he closes his office door. 
I do my part by trying to schedule activities or if the house (groceries, park time, play dates etc), to give him some quiet time. When I have my part-time work now she goes to my Mom's house to stay until I am done.
However, he will take a 15 minute break in the morning too get coffee and let me take a shower. If the baby is sleeping and I need to bring stuff in from the car he will watch the monitor on his desk. When he comes down for food or coffee he takes a few minutes to say hi and play with her. When she was very little, he would hold her while I went to the bathroom and type with one hand ;). 
This means he has a great relationship with her, but it also means she automatically runs into his office yelling "dada" whenever it is open. So I have to be mindful of that. 
It can be difficult, but communicating is key and asking what is needed by him to concentrate and be productive. My husband loves the extra time he gets with his daughter, not having to commute etc. It is really a special thing to be honest and it is making being pregnant with a toddler just a little bit easier too.

I think it totally depends on how much attention his job requires. For example, if he’s on conference calls all the time, it may be hard for him to take time out to help you much during regular business hours. Same if he has large assignments that require him to focus for long periods throughout the day, or if he has to work during a set period of time versus being able to make up time in the evening that he spent during the day helping with the baby. 
Not knowing details about his job, I’d say you should just talk to him to set expectations before the baby is born, and understand if he tells you he needs you to treat his work hours as hours where he isn’t really able to help much. Some people, like my husband, can multitask and work efficiently while still getting home-related stuff done during the day, and some people, like me, are only productive with work when they’re devoting their full attention to it (for that reason, even though I wfh a few days a week, I’ll be bringing my son to daycare/having someone watch him on wfh days after my maternity leave).  As long as you’re on the same page about it, you’ll hopefully be able to make it work!
