Can breastfed babies begin to overeat?

I just had my baby try breastmilk from a bottle for the first time and he drank the 2.5 oz so fast. I ended up feeding him from both breasts afterwords. He is only 11 days old. Is this too much??

We switched our quick water to premie nipples for that reason. He would get so gassy from bottles.

Yes they can overeat from a bottle because they'll typically get it quicker than from you directly and because of that their brain doesnt register their stomach is full like it does with direct breastfeeding. That being said, as long as the baby isnt immediately spitting it up or having it comes out while drinking, your baby most likely isnt overeating.

They can't overfeed from the breast but the bottle may give it too him too fast

Yes - as the others said... the breast is slower and they have to work for it a little more. The bottle has one easy and fast opening.
They can get too much to fast - it can be a cause of spitting up.

My midwife from the anti natal classes said you cannot over feed a breast fed baby... now I dont know about pumping and giving a bottle, that's a different story ...but if only breastfeeding then they can feed all they want.
