Officer tasing older woman
I just watched bodycam footage of an officer in Oklahoma issuing an $80 ticket to an older Caucasian woman (probably around 65) for having a busted tail light.
The officer attempts to have the woman sign the ticket, to which she asks why she doesn't get a warning. The officer states that she's already admitted to driving the vehicle for six months with the busted tail light, and he won't be giving her a warning.
The woman refuses to sign the ticket, which is cause for arrest in OK. So the officer tells her to step out of the vehicle and the woman refuses and says she isn't under arrest.
She then rolls up the window and locks her door. The officer does try to open her door, but once he realizes it's locked he knocks on the window.
When she rolls the window down she says," You be fair with me and I'll be fair with you."
The office tells her again to step out and again she says no. He tells her he's placing her under arrest and the woman says," You are full of shit, because you aren't placing me under no fucking arrest."
He tells her again to step out and she says no. She then tells the officer to shut up and give her the ticket that she'll sign it. The officer says that they are past that and for her to step out. The woman then rolls up her window and drives away.
The police officer pursues her, and once she pulls over he approaches her vehicle with his gun drawn and tells her again to get out of the car. The woman still refused, and screams things at the officer that I couldn't hear because of the sirens. The officer holsters his gun,opens the woman's door and attempts to grab her to pull her out. She tries to close her door on the officer, and tries to pull away saying," you better leave me alone."
The officer grabs hold of her arm,pulls her out, and puts her on the ground. The officer tells her to put her hands behind her back but she's still refusing, and screaming," leave me alone," and "No."
She then tries to kick the officer. The officer steps back and the woman starts to stand up, at this point the officer grabs his taser and tases the woman.
After a second he tells the woman to put her hands behind her back. The woman sits up and tells him she wants to stand, and he says no. She acts as though she's going to try and stand and the cop tells her," your about to get it again."
Finally the woman complies,lies down, and let's the officer cuff her.
Theres some conversation after this point, just basic things like the officer saying she got herself into a lot more trouble, asking if she's ok etc etc
After watching the video I went to the comments and saw most people were siding with the officer.
But there were a few who felt he was to rough with the woman, he didn't have to approach her vehicle with his gun drawn etc etc. These people seemed to be older in age, and the type who would have an opposite option if it was someone younger or a POC.
So my questions;
Do you feel the officer handled the situation appropriately? Why or why not
Do you feel protocol should be "adjusted" for certain things like age?
