Research labor or nah?

So I am 25 weeks pregnant, and never been in labor before. People will try to tell you horror stories and everything else. 
Do you recommend reading about giving birth, etc? Or should I go in blind, so I don’t get too freaked out about it?

I always look at YouTube to watch labor videos. I'm having my second anyday now and still watch them

Definitely educate yourself! At the end of the day we fear what we don’t know. I’m 25w with my first and I’m reading Ina May’s guide to childbirth - and it’s definitely made me feel more confident in my abilities to bitch naturally. I’m also taking a pregnancy class. I never like walking into anything blind.

Honestly everyone’s labor is so different, no one can prepare you for what your body is about to do... I just had a friend be in labor for 36 hours and pushed for 2 with her second, yet I just had my first and was only in labor 6 hours, pushed once... I was having “significant contractions” on the monitor that I just thought felt like some tightening, yet could hear the woman in the next room screaming and crying.... I would say don’t research it, just know when you need to go in and remember to breathe and let your body create your own birth story, I don’t think labor was at all what people told me🤷🏽‍♀️

Educate yourself. I loved labor. It was painful but nothing you cannot handle and the end result was the best gift ever. You got this momma.

Totally up to you and what you prefer. Other then what I heard from friends about labor/delivery, I went in blind.

I think if your curious take a class at the hospital your going to deliver, that will prepare you better. I didn’t look anything up, figured I wouldn’t remember by the time I got there any way lol. I had a c section and one thing I did remember was walk periodically and drink water and glad I remembered that lol helped with recovery

I didn’t think about it. I was going to be induced so I was prepared for c section and vaginal delivery. I think it really helped me stay calm and go with the flow. I wanted to be able to let the Dr make decisions without thinking “oh but I read that was bad what if ______happens.”

Depends on you. For me it helped a ton knowing what I went into.
If you do read about it, do yourself a favor and find normal birth stories. Not the crazy horrifying ones. Just plain good old, I gave birth.
Postive birth stories. I looked up a that hashtag on Instagram. Some pictures are pretty graphic, but it helped a ton. And so did reading the stories.
I knew I had to change my mindset from fear to excitement. I didn't have a 100% succesrate at that, but it went pretty okay 😊

You should take a class at your hospital. They’ll give you a lot of info about different scenarios and what they do for them. So you’ll get good information without the horror stories

I’d much rather know what all could go wrong. I’m mentally preparing for the worst and when I have a routine labor I can feel pleasantly surprised.
