What do you consider labor, not active labor just labor early or active.

There was an argument on facebook and quite a few girls thought the opposite of what my doctor told me. Comment more specific if youd like.

Answer

I had early labor (what my doc called it) that was just consistent, painful contractions. 
I was considered to be in active labor when my cervix started to significantly change (dilating and thinning). 
My water didn’t break on its own, so I feel like that’s a poor way to judge labor.

Let me just comment a few people had said you dont have to have contractions to dilate. How many of you feel that is true?
