Birth story

Taylor • Baby #1 ❤️ little girl ❤️ Gracie Lou

Laying here in bed just staring at my perfect baby girl I decided I should share my birth story!

So I woke up on 8/6 at 1am with contractions. They started out 10 minutes apart and with an hour they where 7 minutes apart. Between 2-4 I jumped from 7minutes apart right to 4 minutes apart. That was when we decided it was time to go to the hospital. We only live 10minutes away so it wasn’t that bad of a drive (thank goodness) got up to L&D where we went to a triage room for monitoring for a couple hours to see if I progressed from 3cm to 4cm. I tell you what those contractions got so strong during that time nothing was helping them and with each contraction I thought I was going to throw up 🤢. But thankfully the next time they checked me at 8am I had progressed to 4cm!!! So I got to go to my own room and finally get some drugs! They gave me Fentenal and started my penicillin (for the Strep type B). And even though I had told myself I was totally strong enough to go without an epidural I was not having that pain anymore! So I told them as soon as I could get one I wanted it. Fast forward 1 hour later and I get my epidural! Let me tell you the man who invented that is a god and has a special place in heaven!!! The pain went away instantly and I could finally rest. Not 10 minutes after getting it my water broke on its own. Which when you have no feeling in your lower half is a very odd sensation. Between then and 3pm they came and checked my cervix every 2 hours. By 3pm I was at a 9.5 and it was time to start pushing. I was excited to get her out and finally see my baby girl. It started out a bit slow because of how numb I was and the fact that even though my contractions were strong they did not have a good pattern. They decided to give me some pitocin to help regulate them which it did. Around hour 2 of pushing my epidural was starting to go away and slowly I was beginning to feel the contractions and the pressure. I pushed for 4 HOURS! I groaned and cried out for more meds. They gave me a small dose to take the edge off but said they really liked how well I was pushing when I could feel the contractions more. I did get some pure oxygen in the last hour and that was heaven sent for me. I was able to bear down and lush her out. Finally at 7:01 she was born! She had a big poop right when she came out and had swallowed some amniotic fluid so She had to have some oxygen help for about 7 minutes. But other than that she is perfect. Latched on to my boob right away and has been a hungry hippo since. The pain sucked but the outcome is absolutely perfect!
