The Line Club

Liz

A poem I felt inspired to write about the club we belong to when it comes to our “lines”.

The Line Club

There is a club we belong to,

That we don’t speak of much.

It’s a club about lines,

That we keep hush-hush.

It’s about the lines that we see,

Whether pink, whether blue.

You may pray for only one,

Or may be hoping for two.

Some feel relieved

Of the worry and stress

When they see just one line

And there’s no second guess.

But despair and longing

Fill the hearts of some,

Who are praying for two

But see only one.

And then there’s the club

Of women who see,

Two pink or blue lines

After their first morning pee.

When two lines appear

There is joy and elation.

For the waiting and hoping

Has turned to celebration.

But still others are fearful

When they see those two lines

They’ve been through the trenches

They’ve been in the mines

They hope for their rainbow,

A sign after the storm

That a precious little child

Soon will be born.

And yet there are some

Not prepared to see two

They aren’t ready for this

And don’t know what to do.

So we belong to a club

Whether we like it or not,

And how we feel about lines

Can differ a lot.
