Managing exhaustion while breastfeeding
Our baby girl is almost six weeks old. After some early feeding troubles (mostly delays in milk coming in and nipple damage - thank god for nipple shields!!!), I think we’ve been pretty lucky with how the feeding is going.
In saying this, I feel like I’m just not handling the interrupted sleep as well as I thought I would - or how everyone else seems to. This is our first baby, and I even think I’m getting more sleep than a lot of new moms, thanks to a wonderful husband and plenty of grandmother support in the early weeks, but still, I am really struggling. I’m struggling to nap during the day, and our baby is so noisy when she sleeps that it wakes me up constantly at nights.
I think she’s also going through a fussy period, so I can’t predict if it’ll be two hours or four hours between feeds. I know there’s moms out there feeding every two hours non-stop, and all I can think is, how???? It’s incredibly what moms do.
