I'm 8-9 weeks and won't be seeing my doctor for the first visit until 10+, with ultraound at almost 11 weeks. 

I found a local place, that for $35 will do an abdominal scan to check for heartbeat and viability between 6 and 11 weeks. 

I mean, for $35 I figured I might a well try -we'd like to tell our family, but want to hear a heart beat first and they can see us this afternoon. 

My question is, at 8/9 weeks, what will I see with an abdominal scan? 

My first pregnancy I saw the Dr at about 8/9 weeks, but it was transvaginal.
