Rice Cereal?

My baby is 3 months and 1 week old. He’s eating up to 7 ounces of breastmilk a feeding and sometimes eats an hour after the 7 ounces. I know pediatricians say wait until at least 6 months but coworkers and some of my moms friends have said they started their baby’s as early as 5 DAYS old. i’m still unsure if i should just give it to him or wait. opinions?

Are you pace feeding the bottles? Most babies max out at 4-5oz per feeding of breastmilk. 7oz would be overfeeding m. Your baby may just have a stronger urge to suck that is being confused with hunger. But yes, it’s too early for anything other than breast milk or formula.

7 ounces is way too much for a breastfed baby, especially that young. He needs to be pace fed with a slow flow nipple. And rice cereal has no nutritional value.

Don’t forget that breastmilk isn’t as filling if there isn’t a lot of fat in it. I would wait until your doctor gives you the okay.

Five days is way to early!! I got the green light from my pediatrician at four months. Baby will also show signs that he’s ready for rice cereal if he follows your food or licks his lips.

Dont it can cause serious tummy issues. My sister gave my daughter some when she was 3 months old and I was up for almost 3 days straight while my baby's tummy was rock hard, she wouldnt poop and she was so miserable the only time she slept was when she cried herself to sleep. I had to all but force her to eat and was giving warm baths trying to get her to poop. I had to take to the dr and thwy stuck a pinky up her tiny bottom and she was so compacted from it that they had to give her a baby laxative suppository.

Have you discussed this with your pediatrician and a lactation consultant? For one 7 ounces is way too much for a 3 month old. Second, rice cereal is an outdated practice. It has no nutritional value and is only used to try to keep a baby full longer and it's not needed. It's not healthy. A baby only needs breast milk for many many months before only fruit and vegetable purees should be introduced. There is no need to add cereal. It can cause so many digestive issues and lots of other issues. I personally think you should not give your baby cereal at all, ever. There is just no need.
