Sex after delivery

How important is it to wait 6 weeks after delivery to have sex? I had a trauma free deliver with no tearing. I stopped bleeding after 3 weeks and feel completely normal in that area. It’s been 4 weeks since delivery and I feel like I’m ready. My doctor was pretty adamant about waiting 6 weeks but is that really necessary?
