Difficult nursing

Ash

My baby is 3 months old and I just went back to work. So 4 days a week she is being babysat and receiving bottles from 7:30-5:30. Now she is refusing to nurse and just wants to be given a bottle even when she’s with me. Is my nursing journey over? Am I going to have to become an exclusive pumper? It’s not what I want to do and I’m so upset. Has anyone run into this kind of thing?

Make sure baby is being pace fed and you’re using a slow flow nipple. Drinking from the bottle should take as long as a nursing session. My baby was bottle fed from 3-14 weeks because he couldn’t latch due to a tongue and lip tie. He is now 6 weeks bottle free! It took some work but it’s possible to get them back to nursing if you bottle feed with the goal of breastfeeding. Contact la leche league - they’re so helpful!!

Once my son had a bottle he would rarely breastfeed. My lactation consultant said babies prefer bottle over breast usually because they get the milk with less effort. I ended up EP but it became so difficult and challenging to pump and feed every 2-3 hours I had to stop. Between pumping, feeding and burping I never slept. I was barely functioning.
