What to ask for baby shower gifts?

So I’ve got my baby shower in about 7 weeks and I’ve got people asking me what I want for it but considering this is my first baby I’ve got absolutely no idea what I even need in the first place! What do people usually say they want/need for their baby shower presents? 
At this stage we haven’t bought a lot except for the nursery furniture, car seat, capsule and pram.

Definitely diapers in all sizes, you don’t know how big baby will be or how fast they’ll grow. You can always exchange them for different sizes anyway. And wipes! These are things you literally throw away so it feels nice to know it’s not your money going in the trash lol 😅 oh and toiletries like baby wash, lotion, oil, diaper rash cream, etc.

For the baby shower, dont really tell them to buy you anything. Just write a list of all the things you need. (Maybe leave out the crib and stuff, for you guys to buy) ask for diapers, size Newbron and 1s, bottles, wipes, clothes, baby hand mits, socks, binkeys, baby bath stuff, lotion, etc.

I really recommend a baby carrier/wrap. I have the baby k'tan and I love it. My daughter will fall asleep in it instantly and I can get stuff done around the house. Also a sound machine is a must!

You can find some great lists on Pinterest. We used Amazon to make a registry and it was so easy! Once you have the registry set up you can just share the link with those who ask - or you can put the info on the invitation itself.
Some things I got at my shower: clothes, diapers, wipes, changing pad and other diapering stuff, diaper bag, Ubbi diaper pail, baby bath stuff, crib bedding, little toys... We also did the book idea!

We did a very early and quickly planned shower when we realized my family would be in town sort of last min. So we hadn’t made a registry. So we asked for gift cards. And instead of cards we asked people to bring us their favorite story book with personal note to baby. The books are wonderful and now we have a ton of kids books!! 
The main thing I’d advise is ask for a variety of sizes on clothes, diapers, etc. We had a 9.5lb baby. He’s grown super quick and already in 12-18month old clothes. Never wore newborn anything. I know that’s not super common but it was nice having less to get at each size group because we had been given things for a number of sizes. 
Things we received that have been helpful so far with our 5month old-
Clothes - variety of sizes up to 1 or 2 yr
Diapers - variety of sizes/brands (it was nice to try a few different brands at the beginning to see what fit baby well and which ones we liked.)
