Umbilical cord falling off in 2 pieces??

Question

The dry part of baby’s umbilical cord fell off sometime in the night, but I noticed this morning that the wetter part that was near the belly button is still there and poking out a bit. I don’t know if it’s part of the cord or a hernia or what. Did anyone else’s lo lose their cord in two parts? Should I call his dr?

My daughter’s fell off in several pieces. I just left it alone and let it do its thing but I’d occasionally take a qtip with water on it and move it around gently to get any of the crusty pieces out.

My second daughter’s cord did this. My pediatrician said (her first part fell off somewhere between her last diaper change at our house and her first pediatrician appointment 😂) that if it didn’t dry up within the week between her appointments that they’d put silver nitrate on it to dry it up so it would fall out. It dried up and fell off within about four days, though.

When our son lost his this week it was wet and kind of white underneath. It took less than 24 hours for it to look like a true belly button. I would keep it clean and give it a day or two.
