How does one walk away from an abusive marriage ? Especially when you have a 1 year old and share a deceased son?

I was in an abusive relationship for 10 years, we have 3 children together and I knew I was done when he kept trying to take my children from me to either give to his mother or his new girlfriend that he got pregnant while we were married... At that point I started fearing for my life... you know you are done when that last shred of humanity is stripped from you... 
I ran with my children to a domestic violence shelter, sold anything I could to make money and then took a plane home to my family. 
It took a long time to realize I was worth more than he said I was... I always sold myself short even though other people would tell me I deserved more or better than I was settling for in life. 
I am now happily married to the love of my life! My ex husband is still a miserable bastard who makes other people miserable and has abandoned not only my 3 kids but any and all children he has had from other women (including the 2 he had with his mistress during and after we were married) 
I have a 2 year old and my 3 older children are adopted by my husband 😊 we are expecting our 5th and final soon and have a beautiful home in an area we absolutely adore with fantastic neighbors! 
You may lose the weight of your child's father but, that weight may have been the only thing keeping you from flying and creating the life that both you and your child deserve!

It’s hard but you have to put yourself and children’s safety ahead of the mess. Yes you feel guilty and emotionally stuck and he uses guilt and manipulation and so many other things to control you. I have been there. Was 5 years with my ex. 2 miscarriages. It was hard to walk away. You tolerate so much bs because you don’t want to be alone and he knows it and uses that to his advantage. He gets away with murder. Friends and family to stay with. Seek help. Both therapy, government assistance if you need it. You are entitled to Medicaid for medical insurance, state funded daycare so you can go to school or work. Financial aid for college. Section 8 housing, most churches or women’s community center offer assistance and therapy. Catholic charities held with rent and utilities assistance. They usually have programs for utilities with the company or community organization. You will be ok and will figure it out. Do what is best for you and your kids. Put them first and their happiness. Know that you deserve better.

No they don't change. You can pack you and your child up while he is working and leave. Don't tell him your leaving just do it one day while he is gone to work.
