So I’m 22 years old and still live with my parents. my boyfriend is 27 and it’s been almost a year with him - 6 months seeing each other and being officially for around 4ish months.

My parents haven’t met him nor do they really know I have a boyfriend, cultural stuff involved, but I think they know I’ve been seeing someone.

Whenever I stay at my boyfriends, I tell them I’m staying at my best friends house because I know the talk i will get from them about being a woman and sleeping at other people’s houses.

My plan is to move out at some point and as soon as I can but I’ve just graduated from university so the money is not there yet.

I’m tired of making excuses to them when I wanna stay over at his. I feel like I should tell them about him and staying over, they can be overprotective and don’t trust me not my sister.

I get that they’re my parents and I live under their roof, I don’t want to be disrespectful but I’m 22 and feel like i should be about be trusted to do things and have some kind of independence.

I want to stay over at my bf’s tomorrow but have been struggling on how to say it in a way that asserts my age and independence but isn’t disrespectful. How should I go about this?
