Good yet affordable convertible car seat?

My mom's two best friends have offered to buy my son's convertible car seat for when he outgrows his infant car seat. They have asked me to pick one out so they can buy it but I don't wanna ask for one that is too pricey. What do you Momma's recommend for an affordable but good seat?

This reminds me of when I went shopping at target for baby stuff for the first time. I overheard grandparents talking about a $400 car seat and I just looked at them and said “I’m sorry... did you say $400?” 
The grandma then spent the next 20 minutes calming me down😂😂😂

Look into the Graco 4-Ever. It's not the cheapest seat but your kid can probably use it for four or five years (not to mention passing it on if you have another baby) so it's a great investment. It's highly recommended by car seat technicians, particularly for extended rear-facing.
