It’s different for every couple. I always say the time that its right to get engaged is when you feel like calling each other “boyfriend/girlfriend” doesn’t feel right anymore. Like it doesn’t feel that term is serious enough to accurately describe your relationship.

Been with my SO 7 years next month & am still waiting for a 💍! Realistically, we both just graduated from college and want to be more financially stable before we get married. It is SOOOO difficult seeing people who haven't dated nearly as long get engaged & married before us, but it is true that everyone has a different timeline. I do think however, you should allow yourself enough time with that person to see them at their ultimate low & vice versa and see how you cope together in a tough situation. Make sure you have talked about your values, what you want in life 5, 10, 25+ years from now and see if those things line up. Don't set yourself up for unhappiness & disappointment because you simply wanted to get married or were still knee deep in the honeymoon phase.
