Selling to family
So I have this family who lives quite a ways away from me, I rarely ever see them. We’re not very close, but she and my mom are. Anyway, my husband and I had bought flooring from Home Depot and used it to refloor our living room. We had a ton left over, but didn’t have the receipt so the store would only give us a certain percentage back. We decided to keep it just in case we wanted to use it for another room or if something was damaged. Anyway, we held on to the flooring for 6 months, but then we bought a house, so we definitely didn’t need it. My mom told me this family member would buy it for us, so we sold it to her for half of what we paid for it at the store. At this point, the store wouldn’t reimburse as at all anyway. So she wrote us a check and came to pick it up. This was a little over a week ago. Well we used the money, obviously, for back to school shopping and what not. Apparently, all of the flooring was damaged. These boxes were brand new, none damaged, all closed, and in our home for the 6 months old we stored it (air controlled). How every single box was damaged is beyond me, but we have offered to pay her back if she gives the flooring back. But I’m frustrated because we have to pull out of savings to pay her back, and drive hours away to pick it back up. I just wanted to be sold and done, if this wasn’t family I wouldn’t even be paying them back. 🙄 I truly don’t understand how it’s damaged, she won’t even send pictures as proof that it’s damaged. And I helped my husband put the flooring in, the vinyl planks are easy to break if you don’t take your time so I feel like they broke the pieces trying to lay it and they’re just trying to get their money back. Hoping Home Depot will somehow reimburse us.
