Pregnancy Announcement to parents: Disappointed
So my hubby and I finally announced to our parents that we are expecting in April. Baby is about 6 weeks old this week. We had our unique ways of telling them and our mothers were super excited. But when we told my hubby’s father and step mom we were very disappointed. My hubby bought a sticker to put on the outside of a wine bottle that said “only great parents get promoted to grandparents.” He is very close with his step mom and calls her his second mom. Anyway, when we presented the bottle their reaction was pitiful - just kinda chuckled said congrats and literally moved on to a new topic in 20 seconds. My hubby has to bring it back up for them to talk about it again. And when he did his step mom said “don’t expect them to call me grandma.” Technically she isn’t the grandma and I’m fine that our baby doesn’t call her that. Our child can call her poop now for all I care, but it hurt and I could see how that really hurt my hubby. When he asked his dad “are you okay with grandpa” his dad never answered and the topic was diverted. So this sticker my hubby personally picked out for them was like a slap in the face. I can’t stand his dad and step mom and this just puts the cherry on top. I have been really considering not bringing my child around them at all. I told my hubby and he said he understands but am I going too far overboard?
