How do you get your baby to talk?

My son is almost ten months and isn’t saying anything! He use to say mama but completely stopped and says baba for bottle one in a blue moon I try to encourage him but nothing I’m doing is working!!!! I know he still has time but it worries me that he isn’t caught up to other littles. Any ideas to try and get the ball rolling?

Just wait, they’ll talk. We’re in a rush for them to grow up and then get sad when they do. Embrace this time now.

A lot of people post when their babies attain milestones but there are many more that still have not reached those milestones yet either- so be wary about thinking that your LO is behind everyone else as the reality is it is fairly normal for a 10 month old not to be speaking words yet. Also, while some babies do legitimately talk quite early, some people claim words like mama and dada that are not said in context and are actually just babble.
To help with language- talk to your LO as much as possible. Talk about what you are doing, talk about what they are doing, label things, sing songs and nursery rhymes, read simple books, encourage approximations eg if they say “uh”, respond, “yes, up” and lift them up.

My son will be 10 months in a few days- doesn’t clap or speak. He babbles, but none of the sounds are specific to an item.
Just keep playing and singing and mimicking what you want them to learn, they’ll pick it up soon enough!

The best activities are playing, singing, reading, pointing and naming things and if you have a baby sign class near, they're great for supporting speech development and reducing frustatration in early years. It's worth remembering though that there will be babies who seem so much further on, some babies favour communication others moving about and others (like mine) favour sitting and waiting! When the skills develop they happen so quick and in this group babies can be up to 4 weeks apart in age, that's a big difference at this age. I hope you don't worry too much, but always seek advice from professionals involved.  Mainly though just play lots and chit chat all the time!

My girl doesn't even babble with consonants. The dr and a speech therapist have both said based on her behavior she is absolutely fine. All milestones have quite large windows. I talk to my girl all the time and read and sing and still nothing. I think they are just on their own unique timeline and they'll get there. 😊

With talking they're going to repeat what they hear, so talking clearly to them is important. Also limit baby talk, it can create speech impediments.
