35+3 failed induction and emergency c-section birth story. (Preclampsia)

Robin • Mommy to Phoenix 8.8.19 my beautiful rainbow baby boy!

Sorry it's a long story!

I can't believe it's been 6 days since giving birth to our son. He is our rainbow baby as we had a miscarriage in january 2018. We tried for a year to get pregnant and we found out we were expecting a year and 10 days after we found out the first time.

My pregnancy had been fairly uneventful the usual nausea, vomiting, discomfort, etc however around the 30 week mark I started getting a lot of braxton hicks contractions that sent me to the er.

Being a first time mom and having had a miscarriage I was on edge about everything so I went to the hospital. I had several trips since then and it became apparent that my blood pressure was an issue. I diagnosed with gestational hypertension at first.

Around 34 weeks I had my growth scan and the plan was to induce me aug 18th at 37 weeks. However I was told to go back to the hospital because of another high BP reading and they ran some tests where they found that the amount of protein in my urine was high and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. I also had a headache that wouldn't quit and swelling.

I was held over night on Sunday August 4th and I had 2 bps over 160 so the high risk doc kept me another day and night. In that time l was giving two steroid shots for babies lungs as there was talk of me being induced the following day.

On Tuesday August 6th another high risk dr make the call to induce that same day. I was giving mistoprostol vaginally to start contractions around 11am and had 3 doses. I only dilated to a 1cm and 50%thinned.

They moved on to the balloon that they insert into your cervix and my dr recommended I do an epidural as they can be painful when inserted. So around 2am I had my epidural and they inserted the foley that was meant to mechanically dilate my cervix. I felt great after the epidural when it but i was so tired and felt drugged.

They started pitocin the same time they inserted the balloon. I eventually dilated to a 3and was 70 percent effaced at 8am on August 7th. I labored all day and was so out of it. I had to have oxygen for baby boy because he would dip when I had a contraction. Eventually they removed the balloon and broke my water. I couldn't feel anything still from the epidural. And they kept telling it could still be hours before I was at a 10. This was late afternoon the 7th.

The next few hours are fuzzy for me. I remember being in a lot of pain and the drs checking my cervix around 2am and I was fully dilated. They kept trying to get me to push and while I was trying with all my might I knew I wasnt pushing the right way. We tried for 4 hrs until a dr brought up a csection. She said I could keep pushing but I was so numb everywhere I couldnt even use my hands. I felt like a failure but agreed to a csection i just didnt have the strength and I was in and out of consciousness.

My husband got dressed and ready to go to the surgical room and they numbed with with some kind of medicine that made me even more out of it. I swear even though the surgery was so painful I was falling asleep on the table.

I remember asking my husband if he was okay and if he was cute and them placing him on my chest but I was in and out.

It was honestly sort of a traumatic experience and I was wiped out to the point I would nod out. However seeing my beautiful rainbow baby after they got me out of surgery was amazing.
