Was breastfeeding a little weird to you when you first started?

I think breastfeeding is natural and that's what we were designed to do, but just looking to see what you mamas out there honestly thought the first time. Was it awkward because of the people around you? Were you shamed? Is it still weird for you?

Answer

It was super awkward when about 12 hours after giving birth the lactation consultant breezed in, asked to watch me latch my baby (woke us up from a rare moment of sleep), then grabbed my boob with her bare hand without asking. I never even asked to see a lactation consultant. I guess it was just standard hospital policy.  
I don’t mind nursing in front of people but I can’t stand someone hovering and critiquing me. And don’t touch me.

I felt awkward because I made it awkward lol... but I slowly got used to nursing around other people, and I learned how to make sure my babies face covered my nipple, and always wear an undershirt so I can pull my regular shirt up. No one has ever said anything to me, and I’ve nursed in a department store too. It is a weird thing to pull out your naked boob because it’s not something people do normally, but you get ised to it the more you do it. What helped me the most was going to a mommy group and that was just good practice nursing in front of other people.

It was a weird feeling the first few days (my daughter and son were both to gue and lip tied) so it hurt like hell. Everyone was super supportive around me and nothing was ever awkward. Im not a mom that uses a cover. I've always used the two shirt method but will and have always nursed whenever needed. Even walking thru target haha. You honestly could never tell unless the baby popped off. I've always had a over active letdown and over producer so I've had to milk myself in public bathrooms in the handicap stall sink or in a water bottle in the car. Thats not always fun lol

It wasn’t weird to me. I loved breastfeeding my daughter. That was our time together.
