Yes. I only have a few close friends now and they very rarely text/call me first. Then get mad when I never text them. It really annoys me when they get mad yet never try to start a conversation. Especially because I’m fairly open with them about struggling with anxiety and depression. 
A year or two ago my closest friend ignored me for months when I kept trying to talk to her. I finally got a mutual friend to talk to her to see wtf was going on. Turns out someone else told her a rumor about me that wasn’t true, and she was mad about it so she wouldn’t talk to me. We made up but I’m not very close with her anymore because it was pretty shitty that she didn’t even ask me if the rumor was true.

I think it needs to be a two way road. If you suddenly stop messaging them, would they message you first or never talk to you again? Personally I had a best friend who was like a sister to me. I also felt a little under appreciated for some things. I started to notice that I was always texting her first so one day I stopped and to this day she hasn't trying contacting me. That was over 9 months ago. It hurt so much but I had to let her go. She wasn't a real friend after all..

I don’t mind unless my friend seems fake or if I try 
 to talk to them to hang out they  say yes then say they can’t go then I see them post about them somewhere out or complaining
