When does breast milk come?

I will be getting induced on Monday 8/19 and I want to strictly breastfeed my baby. Will I have milk to feed him with at the time he is born? Or will I have to give him formula?

Your body will have everything you need to feed baby, don't worry! Milk doesn't come in for a few days but your body produces colostrum which is just what baby needs ❤

My hospital follows something called “The Golden Hour” which is basically strictly skin to skin the first hour after birth and that encourages baby to latch on! My daughter rooted around very soon after being born and took right to it. For the first couple of days you’ll have colostrum which is mostly just antibodies but is the best thing you can give them then your milk will come in.

I was induced and I got my milk in 48 hrs. Just feed every 2 hrs and it will come!!!

He won't need much milk right away, he's still well nourished from the placenta. You will have a few drops of colostrum, a very calorie dense yellow fluid, containing plenty of your antibodies to help build his immune system, that he will get when you first latch him. He might start getting hungry around day 2, sometimes your milk only comes on day 3-4. Try to latch him as often as possible in the first 24 hours so that he gets much of the colostrum and to stimulate your milk supply. Try to avoid formula feeding (unless he's really ugly crying from hunger AFTER you spent like an hour feeding him) - your milk supply is self regulating and even the first feedings will tell your body how much you need to make.
Drink some nursing tea and have a lot of skin to skin contact with baby, it might help to get milk faster, but don't freak out if it doesn't, patience is key and they won't starve, they drink like 1/2 oz at a time in the first few days.
