“Prewash” cycle?

I’m getting excited (and as prepared as possible) for baby girl’s arrival! She’s due Christmas Day and it’s getting faster and faster... 
I’ve been talking with friends and doing research on cloth diapering... however, we have an old top load washer and no “prewash” button?  I know the main wash cycle will be cool/warm water, medium-ish water level and normal cycle (with softener “on” for extra rinse)... buuuuut... what should my settings be for prewash?  We’ll be using Tide Free and Gentle powder.

It's too blurry to make out the settings but mine doesn't have one either so I just do rinse and spin.

I have a washer that can do both prewash and extra rinse, so I can't comment on specific settings for you, but I'd like to say this though. Wash diapers on hot. You want everything to die in that wash. Warm water won't cut it. Also, when we were starting our cloth diaper journey, we took a class at out local natural baby store that ran a diaper service. We were told how to prep our washer and dryer for cloth. Diapers will have a longer shelf life if you use a detergent free of dyes, scents, brighteners, etc, etc. Basically just soap.  Also, liquid is better than powder because powder can stay undissolved and lodged inside the diaper's numerous layers. Once you're done washing them, there should be no trace of detergent on them. Not every baby is that sensitive, but why mess with it. The detergent they recommended for diapers is called Charlie's liquid laundry soap. It's sold on Amazon as well as their own website. It's natural and non-toxic and only has 4 ingredients. Check the ingredients on your Tide box. There's like 20+ and most are irritants. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, just thought I'd let you know there are safer options and are better for cloth. We were also told to never use softener as it interferes with the diapers absorption capabilities. We had to do a few washes of towels first with just Charlie's soap to remove any softener residue from the washer. Same with the drier, several cycles of drying towels without drier sheets to remove the waxy build up. All these things make the diapers waterproof instead of absorbent. And we now have to follow these rules with all our laundry, or the build up would get redeposited. So we wash everything with Charlie's, no softener, and dry with wool balls instead of drier sheets. If you want a scent on your clean clothes, you drop some essential oil on a wool ball. We've been cloth diapering since my daughter was born 8 months ago (we were also due Christmas day!!) and have had no problems. We love the convenience of cloth and no diaper rashes.

I don't use a prewash cycle. I do two heavy duty cycles with hot water. I want the diapers getting as clean as possible and I feel like doing this gets them cleaner than doing 1 short cycle and one long cycle.

I believe you'll want a more heavy duty cycle but I'm not sure what settings if you use Facebook there's a group called "cloth diaper wash and care" they are super helpful with wash routines

I don’t use the prewash cylce I do a normal wash with a tiny bit of detergent and than do a power wash for my main wash with a little more detergent. My diapers always come out clean and never have issues. Have you checked you water hardness?
