Work rant
Sorry for the long post, I just need to get it out somewhere and I’m pretty sure my husband doesn’t want to hear my bitching about it anymore 🤣
My hire date is May 11th, I had my annual review last week of June and YESTERDAY my boss finally got back to me about my raise... AND I DIDNT GET ANYTHING. I followed up twice after my annual review (which I received stellar remarks in every category) and he said he was talking everything over with the owner to get things approved.
Based on my area, education, and experience the average is $18-22/hour for my job. When I first started I was at $10.75. My manager left and they threw all of her responsibilities on me and gave me a $.50 raise. I fought to get to $15/hr and then the next year I finally said this is where you should be paying me and got $18. I worked 3 years not getting paid what I should have. I did not expect a huge raise this year but I was looking for about $.50 since I’m still at the low side of the pay spectrum.
The two main reasons the owner said I wouldn’t be getting a raise it because I wasn’t skilled enough (not true) and they already gave me two susbstabtial raises in the past. Yes, they were substantial because you weren’t even close to the area average!!
It should be noted that I don’t believe the owner values me as an employee do to some rumors of others basically saying I wasn’t doing my job. Even after I proved that all of the things said were false, I don’t think it matters. The damage is done.
As for the not skilled enough - well guess what? I’m writing a letter today asking for 5 more days of PTO (the current vacation plan sucks) AND asking for tuition reimbursement to further my education. If a compromise can’t be worked out, I will be resigning. Working in a mainly male dominated industry, I will not be continually stepped on. Stand up for yourselves ladies!
Wish me luck!
