Folic Acid only? First trimester

Question

My doctor told me today that it's better to take only folic acid in the first trimester instead of the prenatal I've been taking. What did your doctors say?

Folate (aka folic acid) is very important, but prenatal vitamins offers much more that your body needs for a healthy pregnancy. Your baby takes a lot of nutrients from your body and being deficient in something can cause complications. All my OBs (I’ve had 6 different ones) have always stressed the importance of prenatal vitamins.

At least in Norway, it’s expected a person to manage their own diet in a way that they are not lacking vitamins. If you are sick or have other reasons to lack certain vitamins they tell you. You don’t take extra vitamins unless you need them. ☺️
