A rare condition called Vasa praevia is a condition in which the fetal blood vessels cross or run near the internal opening of the uterus. These vessels are at risk of rupture when the supporting membranes rupture, as they are unsupported by the umbilical cord or placental tissue. Vasa praevia occurs in about 0.6 per 1000 pregnancies. If these fetal vessels rupture the bleeding is from the fetoplacental circulation, and fetal exsanguination will rapidly occur, leading to fetal death.

I was scheduled to be induced on August 13th 2019. Had my full term baby came before this day I would have never gotten to meet him. This rare condition was not diagnosed in myself, although the only symptom was there (low lying placenta)

, it was later closed as resolved. After breaking my water to find it being nothing but blood I was rushed to the OR for an emergency c section. Hayden went just over 10 minutes without any oxygen. He lost two bags of blood and was delivered with no sign of life. Hayden was revived at St Mary’s hospital and within hours was sent over to CHOP, where we all believed could handle him best. He was given numerous blood transfusions and is still needing support to breathe. His kidneys and liver have not yet recovered and we are patiently waiting for answers regarding Hayden’s future and if he will have one.

Please pray for my new little family.

UPDATE: Haysend recovery has done a 180. Hes come off all breathing support, kidneys and liver have recovered as well as fluid in the brain, all gone, miraculously. There is slight damage to the brain but it's likely to have a minimal effect on his life. I cant believe the doctors are discussing when he can come home. My baby will be a month old and this is the first time weve discussed anything other than death with his doctors. I now believe in miracles.
