Right ring finger is for promise rings. The left ring finger is for when he actually fulfills the promise and marries you.

I personally refused to take up my left hand ring finger until I had an actual engagement ring. To me if I'm going to show the world I'm fully committed, then he needs to also be fully committed with an engagement to marry. But I don't fully understand the concept of promise rings for this reason I guess, so I may be the wrong person to ask.
