Do all (or most) ectopics have obvious symptoms?

Ka

I'm 5 weeks today and just had my first appointment with my GP yesterday. The only worrisome symptom I've experienced so far is red spotting/bleeding after a strained bowel movement, and some almost unnoticeable pinkish spotting after another strained bowel movement the next day. Each instance was isolated and only 1-2 wipes' worth of diluted-looking blood. My doctor didn't seem too concerned, but said that if I experience any heavier bleeding, I should go to the ER immediately because it could be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy.

I think this warning has somehow wormed its way into my head and now I'm even more terrified of things not going well. I haven't really had much cramping - at most some mild pelvic discomfort or gas, or that dull ache you get during your period that you know is there but is very easy to ignore. As for pregnancy symptoms, all I've experienced so far are sore boobs and very mild nausea in the evenings.

I'm sure I'm reading too much into these "symptoms" and stressing myself out unnecessarily, but my first ultrasound isn't for two more weeks and the wait is excruciating. And I won't get my blood/urine test results (with my hCG levels) back until a week or so.

Just wondering how common it is to not experience any symptoms before being diagnosed with an ectopic (I'm hoping not very)? Until I know for sure this is a viable pregnancy, I guess I'm just looking for some peace of mind.
