Vows only wedding?

Question

Okay so we are trying to decide between eloping and having a ceremony only that we invite family to somewhere outdoors. Even if we do immediate family only we’re looking at 60 people, and we can’t afford any sort of wedding as we just poured all of our money into buying a home and don’t want to wait to marry because we’re religious and need to marry to move in together. Is it tacky if we do our vows outside like at public gardens and invite family to watch/pop champagne and take photos afterwards, without any kind of reception?
Edit- We don’t want gifts! We think immediate family will want to watch the vows because they love us. But we aren’t going to marry at the court house- even if we elope we’ll do our vows alone somewhere beautiful in a garden etc. with an officiant & photographer.

I think people make weddings way too big of a deal. I had a huge wedding, all the bells and whistles, because my husband and mother in law really wanted a big wedding. Who cares! You do you! I think a Garden wedding would be beautiful! Early Spring would probably be best time through... If not just elope and have a gathering later to celebrate.

I think if you’re just inviting close family and local best friends, having it brief and outdoors and then providing champagne sounds lovely. I imagine your parents and siblings want to be there and support you, and don’t care about all the frills. 
If you were inviting cousins and coworkers and so on, then sure maybe a party with food would be more appropriate. But immediate family at a park isn’t tacky.
You might have trouble finding a cheap/free garden or park that allows alcohol though.

I would just elope. 60+ people at a random outdoor venue is going to be more difficult to coordinate than you may think. There are also usually city ordinances about gatherings in public places, especially when alcohol is involved.

If you’re having guests, I think you have to have food if people are coming. My venue had a brunch option for example that was on the inexpensive side. Or do a backyard bbq

I think you should have a reception and serve a meal at the very least. It is very tacky. I understand not wanting to do a traditional wedding but I do think you should so something. If not then go to the courthouse, if you want a cheap wedding then why does it matter where it takes place?

Yes it’s a bit tacky. You need to provide a meal at least if you’re going to have that many guests and expect gifts. We did a beach ceremony with only immediate family and then a year later a family wedding since we’re also religious.
