Can Long Distance Work?

Question

I’m currently in a situation I’m very unsure about, theirs this guy, amazing man and I’ve never had somebody make me feel this way and so wanted.
We’ve both confessed extremely strong feelings for each other. Our contact is mostly online and even then I feel so connected to him and he has helped me through more than you could imagine. Last time I saw him he met my parents and we ended up having sex. 
Here’s the issue. He lives 5 1/2 hours away. Works in the mines two weeks on and two weeks off. We’ve talked about a relationship but unsure if we could make it work. 
What is everyone’s experience with long distance relationships and can they work?

I’ve had a couple long distance relationships before. And in my experience: it can work if there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, or what I meant to say is: if you know that at some point you’ll be living close by each other - then there’s hope. If there’s no hope of ever living near each other then I find it would be harder to make it work.

Yes. My husband and I were long distance for about 7 months before he moved to my state. Two years later we were married, we now have three kids. 
It can work but you both need to be committed to texting, calling often, visiting often. There should be an end date when you’ll eventually be together.

I had a long distance relationship for a half year, cause I had my internship in Spain. We were 1,5 year together when I went there. For me it worked out (almost 6 years together now and a little one on the way). 
It worked for us because we didn’t had any problems before I left. I trust him 110% and that’s vice versa. If we couldn’t communicate with each other that would have made things much harder. I am really clear to him. I speak out my thoughts about every doubt, frustration or just cranky moods. My trust has only increased in him. Being away helped us develop ourselves individually and together. 
My advice, if you feel in your soul you love him and that’s vice versa go and try it out. Communicate with each other and be honest about your thoughts and what’s on your heart. Don’t leave things behind to make the other feel better, that would probably only make things worst. 
Further I don’t what else to add. My situation was of course different than yours, but hopefully my reply gives you some kind of insight/view.

Hi! Long distance relationship here. My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I are both in the army and we’ve been separated for a year and still have a year to go. YES! It can work. It just takes a LOT of communication and it has to be equal participation. We live on opposite sides of the world and have only seen each other 3 times in the passed 13 months. It’s hard. But it’s doable

Long distance relationship can work. It has to have a lot of trust and commitment. I'm in a long distance relationship but we talk often and it works if u are willing to put in the work.
