Amniocentesis?

Question

How many moms have had an amniocentesis during their pregnancy and did not have a miscarriage? Also how many moms have been told their baby has multiple abnormalities during pregnancy and baby has lived?

We chose not to. We found out we are both carriers for a very rare mutation of cystic fibrosis. They said the chances of my husband and i both having it are 1 in 1000000. So they wanted to do one to check to see if baby has CF. We denied it. We didn’t want to risk anything happening. 
We decided to wait until birth for testing. Happy we waited

My mother in law was just telling me she had an amniocentesis because my husband showed other signs for Down syndrome. Her test came back low and he came out with straight lines across his palms they were concerned but he has no issues. Don’t worry your baby will be beautiful!

I never had to discuss having an amnio with my ob, but my mother-in-law lost her first baby after having this test due to being high risk. She also told me of a couple friends who had lost babies after having this procedure.
It doesn't really seem necessary and a bit dangerous. Also, the thought of sticking a large needle through my belly was not selling it to me either. We just stuck with the harmony blood testing, even if it showed abnormalities, we were dead set against having an amniocentesis done.
