My son is 2 years old, 29lbs, 36.5” tall. We still have his car seat rear facing because it doesn’t seem to bother him and “they say” to keep it that way until he’s 1” or below the headrest. Should I switch to front facing or leave him be?

Rear Facing until 4 years of age is what is recommended where I live, so we will be keeping our son RF till then.

Do what works for you. We switched both of our kids when they were 1 because they hated rear facing. I was more likely to be stressed while driving if my kid was in the backseat screaming bloody murded and not breathing because they were crying so bad. Yes, it's riskier forward facing them, but for us forward facing was the safer option.

If he doesn’t mind being rear facing, I would leave him like that. 
Personally, I wish I could of left my boys rear facing longer, but it was a battle getting them in their seat everyday, and their doctor told us it would be fine to rotate their seat as long as they’re properly harnessed in their seat.

If it’s working for you (and him!) then I would say leave it rear facing.  We switched at 2 years (32.5lb, 36.5”).  Mostly because he’s very difficult to get in a car seat (kicking, squirming, screaming 🤦🏼‍♀️) so we tried forward facing once he turned 2 and it seems to be better.

They are safest facing the back.  As long as his legs are at bothering him. Leave him rear facing as long as he will let you. Better safe than sorry.  We are doing the same

I’m psycho about the car seat. My daughter will be rear facing until she’s 40 pounds. She’s 27 lbs so she’s got some time. My family gets annoyed by my bc I cause extra work but I’d rather everyone be annoyed with me for a few years than I hold a grudge against a family member forever bc my little girl was hurt during a preventable time.  Too much research shows their little bodies aren’t ready for front facing that early. Not judging other parents decisions, to each their own, but my decision is to be conservative as possible.

My son is 2 and still rear facing and I plan on him being rear facing til at least 3. I read that impacts from crashes is easier on little bodies when they are rear facing. I never had a fear of driving or highways til I became pregnant now I have small anxiety attacks whenever I'm on highways.

Our pediatrician really stresses leaving rear facing until he hits the pound limit. His seat is rear facing until 50 pounds. Not sure we  wait that long but for now he remains rear facing.
