Is your 8 month old eating foods other than purées?

My son has zero interest in eating what I called “big boy foods.” He picks crap up and just throws it on the ground when I present it to him in his high chair. I’ve spent so much money and time making things just to have him scream and fight me about eating it. 
Everyone talks about baby led weaning, and that’s great and all, but my son just isn’t ready it seems. 
He eats all the purées and oatmeal but that’s about it. He seems interested in foods we are eating but the problem with that is he can’t have eggs, milk, wheat, or sweet potato. This is hard. I feel like he should be eating more then just spoon fed, liquid consistency fruits and veggies. 😭
(He did eat the insides of French fries once and even a few mandarin oranges, but that’s about it for things other than purées.)

My daughter prefers finger foods over purées. When we all eat together on the table she refuses to have her purée and just spits it out and waits till she can have some of ours lol.
My son stopped eating purées at 8 months as well.
I think it’s cause she can feed it to herself and doesn’t depend on any help. She always tries so grab the spoon and makes a giant mess

My baby boy is the same. He only eats purees and even that he’s not interested as much as I want him to be. BUT I don’t stress about it because “Food before 1 is just for fun”. There are days that he will eat, some days not really. He loves avocados, sweet potatos, carrots and oatmeals but he wont eat more than 2 servings per day. But yeah, don’t stress too much momma!

If I try to give my girl anything slightly chunky (smashed banana, avocado, etc..) , she's gags and usually throws up.  Her older brother was the same way and just took longer to move past the puree stage.  He just turned two and eats just fine.  Just took a while to graduate to big boy food.  Just keep trying and eventually they'll get the hang of it.

I started with the soft foods at first. Someone mentioned smashed banana, or avocado, even peaches or mango can be soft.  Once she was used to that it opened the door. She still has purée or pouches. For the most part though she will eat most of what I give her. Not a fan of carrots (steamed or roasted). She loves hamburger meat lol and chicken but it has to be soft.  She enjoys macaroni as well and rice roni meals (certain ones). She can be picky too. Oh and so far 8 teeth lol working on 9 and ten.  I thought she’d be eating everything!  I think your son will eat in his own time.  However if you’re concerned talk with your pediatrician.  But don’t give up.  You got this 💛

I started finger food at 4.5 months he reached for garlic bread and put to him mouth lol didn’t like the flavour so next day he had toast for breakfast

My first ate purées until he was well over 1. He had NO desire to eat our food. Now at 3 he eats just fine. It just didn’t click with him for a while. My second is the absolute opposite now. It’s crazy.

You can vary the consistency of the purées- sometimes I’ll add cereal to a purée to make it thicker and chunky or use less water when I’m mashing it up. . Also I feed him puffs and yogur melts and the rice starch crackers that melt. He has also eaten mashed potatoes with some chunks and the dog inside of pizza crust and areppas ( a corn cake )

My son does, but he’s not great about picking it up for himself. If I hold something he’ll eat it from my hand, so I’ve done that with wedges of avocado and some soft steamed squash. We also get these melties and he LOVES them! I like that they’re very simple ingredients! Each one is just the fruits/veggies and fruit pectin. He will pick these up and eat them himself, but he doesn’t always know how to let it go in his mouth so usually if he’s holding it he’ll eat about half of the meltie and the rest will be stuck to his finger until I get it off for him and put it in his mouth.
