Pros & Cons on copper iud ??

Question

Im really debating on a non hormonal birth control method. I know nothing is 100% protective but i trust the iud more than a condom. What are some pros and cons you ladies can share? I’ve always been scared of IUD , both the insertion and the side effects. Thank you.

I had the copper iud but switched to mirena only due to my periods. Without birth control i have very heavy snd painful bleeding. I liked the copper iud because it was hormone free and lasts 10 years. With the copper iud my periods went from 7 days to 10 and heavier bleeding which was hard for me to imagine since i already use an ultra tampon most of the time. If you have a light or medium flow naturally you should do ok. I only had it a month due to my periods but ive heard it can make periods heavier and longer the first 3 to 6 montha you have it so it may be an adjustment period. On the other hand my heavy periods stopped after month 4 with mirena which i love. The hormones stay in your uterus, unlike all other hormonal methods that circulate your blood stream, so you will likely get less side effects. For both iuds insertion felt like intense cramps. I had bad cramps after getting it for a few weeks but then they went away. Its important to find a method that works for you. I wish i had gotten my iud sooner. I would have stayed with the copper iud if my periods were naturally lighter in flow. Also medications dont interact with any type of iud. Ive used antibiotics and st johns wort oil and havent gotten pregnant. Ive had mirena a year we dont use condoms or pull out, not pregnant but i check my strings monthly. I hoped this helped.
