I Want to Go Camping With a The Guy I Like

I [17 F] haven’t decided if I like this guy [18] or not... We went to school together, I am a senior. He graduated. Anyway, he is one of those people who knows what he’s doing when it comes to camping anything outdoors really. So I jokingly asked him one day when I ran into him, “ When are we going camping?” It has been a goal of mine all summer to go camping. I am not a “ put myself out there” type of person so this was really out of the ordinary. He told me to pick a date, which felt like a success since I wasn’t expecting a real response.

I have no idea how to plan camping trips and he is super busy so I have to plan it all alone, even though he knows what to do and where to plan... So I have been sending him dates and EVERY SINGLE ONE he says he can’t make that date. Literally ALL of the campgrounds are full for the next couple of months. I asked him how I am supposed to plan something when I don’t even know his schedule and he literally told me to pick another date. 🤦‍♀️ I know he’s busy, he is working and a full time student but now I’m starting to think that he might not want to go... But then why would he tell me to keep looking if he didn’t want to?

One more thing, I don’t know if it will just be us or not. He seems fine with that and the screenshots of places I send him book only one tent. We haven’t talked about who is going so far it’s just us. Most likely will be with friends. How do I bring that up? I’m fine with how ever it turns out I just have no idea what he’s expecting. My mom said she’s fine with it just being us. She trusts me to make the right decisions on who I am going with. Also, we would be taking separate cars so I have an escape if anything weird happens, which I highly doubt it will. He’s also someone that my brother really looks up to and he is accepted by my family. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

I suck at explaining things; we have known each other for over 2 years. We were really close as friends for a while. He isn’t some random guy I’ve just met. I asked him blatantly if he was even actually interested in camping with me. If he wasn’t gonna go with me I was gonna find someone else, this guy could just give me a chance to have a boyfriend lol. He said that he definitely wants to, it would be a lot of fun. Right now, his weekends are pretty full. Is this even a good idea? Should we do it with people first?
