I believe them to be two different things. We're made in the image of God, and God has 3 "parts". Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Man is also made of 3 parts: body, soul, and spirit. In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 it says "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole *spirit, soul, and body* be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.".Our body is our flesh and bones, which is pretty self explanatory. Our soul is who we are, our emotions and our thoughts and our will. In Genesis 2:7 King James version it says "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Our spirit is best described as the immaterial part of humanity that connects with God. Our spirit is dead (Ephesians 2:1-10) until we are born again and God's spirit lives within us. It is though our spirit that we hear from God and have promptings and convictions. Hope that all makes sense and provides some insight. 😊
